    What's New in Tucson - December 2004

Saddle Up at Old Tucson Studios – One of Tucson’s premiere attractions, Old Tucson Studios is now offering horseback rides for all ages through the picturesque Tucson Mountain Park. Be one of the 350,000 annual visitors to Old Tucson and you’ll walk in the footsteps of Hollywood stars from John Wayne to Harrison Ford. Old Tucson Studios is where the West was filmed.

TCC to Market Soundstage – The Tucson Convention Center has a new marketing campaign thanks to Hollywood producer Mark Sennet. Sennet asked if he could use the North Exhibit Hall as a soundstage for the Stephen King miniseries “Desperation”, and has been so pleased with the location that the TCC will now actively market the site as a soundstage for future projects. The North Exhibit Hall is 24,000 square feet, has a 24 foot by 24 foot loading door, 24 to 27 foot ceilings AND heating and air-conditioning.

A Famous Tucson Chef Opens New Restaurant – Chef Albert Hall has opened his very own restaurant, Acacia, at St. Phillips Plaza in Tucson. Acacia serves lunch, dinner, and Sunday brunch. Check out some of Hall’s offerings - a custard of house smoked wild salmon, peppercress, rhubarb crema, and beluga caviar appetizer for $14 or an entree of pan-seared Chilean sea bass, rosemary-red chile nage roasted beet orzo, grilled asparagus, roasted plum tomato, a purée of English peas for $24.

A Famous Southern Arizona Chef Opens New Restaurant - Chef Warren's Border House Bistro is now open in Tubac. The food is best described as casual-chic in a relaxed setting surrounded by more than 100 shops and galleries.Cooking demos and catering available, as well as Chef Warren’s popular culinary day tours to Sonora, Mexico, packed with local history, lore, and facts about the city that straddles the Mexican-American border; a true insiders look.

A New Look and New Name for a Tucson Landmark – After suffering a devastating fire last July, Café Terra Cotta is ready to reopen with a new name on December 20. Now it’s simply Terra Cotta –Creative Regional Cuisine. If you’re a regular, don’t fret, all signatures dishes are still on the menu along with a few new ones.

If You’re Already Looking Ahead to Spring – Tucson is spring-training home to three Major League Baseball teams. Come to Tucson in March to see the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Colorado Rockies, and the Chicago White Sox play games daily. Tickets go on sale in January.
