Tohono Chul Park Features Desert Cultures and Music at the Spring Concert Series

Tucson, Ariz. April 2, 2008.  Seats are now available for the 2008 Tohono Chul Park Spring Concert Series which kicks off Thursday, April 17. The series features desert music ranging from the Native Flute to Yaqui dancing to the Didgeridoo.
 
The series opens on April 17 with Gabriel Ayala and Vince Redhouse performing classical, jazz and flamenco music on guitar and Native flute.
 
On May 1, Allen Smith and Rainbow Didge will present the unique and mesmerizing sounds of the Australian aboriginal didgeridoo. It will be Rainbow Didge's first performance at Tohono Chul Park.
 
Alex Maldonado performs on May 15. Maldonado is a Pascua Yaqui flute player and award winning creator of musical instruments. He performs with his son Nick, a percussionist, and his daughter Melissa, who sings in the Yaqui language and performs traditional Yaqui dances.
 
The series concludes on May 29 with the Tucson Guitar Society. The Guitar Society's performance will actually consist of three separate performances: acoustic blues guitarist Stefan George; Guilherme Vincens plays classical guitar and music from his native Brazil; Ismael Barajas plays flamenco guitar.
 
This season's series is sponsored by the Union Pacific Foundation. Admission for each show is $10 for Park members and $18 for the general public. The Tohono Chul Park Tea Room will remain open for dinner prior to each performance.
