ELITE YOUTH VOLLEYBALL TEAMS VIE FOR GOLD AT
USA VOLLEYBALL HIGH PERFORMANCE CHAMPIONSHIPS

 

Tucson, Ariz., July 18, 2008 - The Metropolitan Tucson Convention & Visitors Bureau and Joseph Volleyball Camps present the 2008 USA Volleyball High Performance Championships, from July 22-27 at the Tucson Convention Center.

The TCC's exhibition halls will become 15 volleyball courts for the tournament, which includes 83 national and international teams competing for a range of titles. July 22 will kick off team meetings, practices and opening ceremonies, which will include a dinner banquet at the TCC's Grand Ballroom that evening.

Tournament play will begin July 23 and end July 27, when the National Division championship team will be decided, by 12:30 p.m. Girls' and boys' junior, youth and select teams - comprised of players born 1989 and after, up to 1994 and after - will compete in pool play from July 23-25. Bracket play will begin on July 26. The International Division champion teams will be decided on July 26, with teams from Chile, Peru, Saskatchewan and Nova Scotia making the trip to Tucson to compete.

USA Volleyball High Performance Championships fast facts:

  • Roughly 2,100 participants and spectators are expected during the tournament.
  • The 83 teams participating will bring roughly $2.4 million in estimated economic impact for Tucson.
  • Participating teams will travel to Tucson from: Carolina Region, Chile, Florida, Iowa, Iroquois Empire Region, N. Calif. Region, Nova Scotia, Peru, Aloha Region, Arizona Region, Puerto Rico, Saskatchewan, S. Calif. Region, Badger Region, Chesapeake Region, Delta Region, Gulf Coast Region, Intermountain Region, Lakeshore Region, Ohio Valley, Oklahoma, Puget Sound, Sun Country Region and Garden Empire Region.
