TUCSON HOSTS 2008 ABA BMX SOUTHWEST NATIONALS AT TCC

Tucson, Ariz., July 31, 2008 - The Metropolitan Tucson Convention & Visitors Bureau and ABA BMX present the 2008 Southwest Nationals bicycle motocross (BMX) Championship from August 8-10 at the Tucson Convention Center.

The TCC will house the entire event within its air-conditioned walls, including the competition track. Riders will compete on an indoor track in the arena area, with room for 5,000 spectators. The Exhibition Hall will house registration, bike lock-up, team pits and Vendor Row - which is set to include BMX HEX, Riders Pro Shop, MJT Designs and more.

Riders from 6 years old and up - including professionals - will compete in Pre-Race events on Friday, Aug. 8, at 6 p.m., with awards for 1st through 4th places. Saturday's National race will take place at 11 a.m., and the final race on Sunday, Aug. 10, will kick off at 8 a.m., with doors open at 7 a.m.

Practices will be held Friday from 1:15 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in 20-minute intervals, beginning with Boys 9-10 and ending with Pro-level riders. Saturday's practice schedule will run from 6:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.

  • Competing groups include: 6 & under boys and girls; 7-8 boys; 9-10 boys; 11-12 boys; 13-14 boys; 15-18 men; 19 & over men; Pro; 7-12 girls; 13 & over girls; 13 & under Cruisers; 14-25 Cruisers; and 26 & over Cruisers.
