Chile Fest in Downtown Tucson
(TUCSON, Ariz. -- Sept. 16, 2008) -- A Southwestern harvest-time tradition will capture
center-stage as the second annual "Chile Fest: Ristra Madness" takes place
during the final weekend of September at Old Town Artisans, located in the
historic Presidio District just north of the Old Pima County Courthouse.

merchant El Chile Loco, the event will feature the latest crop of Hatch
New Mexico green chiles, fresh chile roasting and pristine chile ristras (strings)
for purchase. In addition, the 11 AM to 7 PM Saturday and Sunday September 27th
and 28th event will highlight salsa tasting, including an exclusive new
creation by Salsa Timoteo.
To
add to the festivities, local vendors Real Tortilleria and Panaderia
will offer fresh tortillas and tamales, Indian fry bread, "Sage Ceramic Gifts",
"Five Star Jerky" along with locally made prickly pear wreaths and
ristras. A roasted green chile-eating
contest will be held Sunday at 3 PM. while a clown providing face painting and
balloon animals will be on hand both days.
Capping
the family-oriented "Chile Fest" celebration will be live music provided by
internationally celebrated Mexican harpist Francisco Gonzales as well as
mariachi soloist Josefina Gallegos.
"Chile
Fest: Ristra Madness" will be held in the lush courtyard of Old Town Artisans,
located at 201 North Court Avenue. Weekend on-street parking is always free in
the historic Presidio District, the vibrant birthplace of Tucson.

Old Town Artisans is
located in the El Presidio Historic District and occupies an entire little city
block. The 150 year-old adobe building has six distinctive shops and galleries,
which feature traditional and contemporary art and fine craft from hundreds of
local and regional artists. The Spanish style courtyard and patio offer a relaxing
place to enjoy a meal or beverage amidst regional plants and trees.
Present-day
Old Town Artisans is located on the site of El Presidio San Augustin del
Tucson, the fort built by the Spanish in 1775 to stake claim to the northern
frontier of New Spain. The current location was the stables area and the north
wall is the setting from which Apache attacks were repelled.
