2008 New Years Eve Events in Tucson


TUCSON, Ariz. (Dec. 3, 2008) - When the holidays are over and the gift wrap is in the garbage, break out the bubbly and ring in the New Year in style at any of these fun events in the Old Pueblo.

Swing With the Stars at the New Year's Eve Jazz Gala. The Tucson Jazz Society presents its annual music-dinner-and-dancing party at the luxurious JW Marriott Starr Pass Resort & Spa, featuring award-winning artists Rick Braun, Richard Elliott, Jeff Golub, Brian Bromberg, Gregg Karukas, Ricky Lawson, and NYC's Urban Jazz Coalition. Dec. 31, starting at 6 p.m. And for the first time this year, the four-to-five-hour concert will be will be broadcast live via Internet streaming through the Arizona Jazz Network, www.azjazz.net. Rock Out with Los Lobos at the Rialto. The historical Rialto Theatre presents three-time Grammy award-winning rock band Los Lobos - famous for creating music that blends the blues, rockabilly, jazz, Latin and their own Mexican-American heritage. Toast 2009 at Loews Ventana Canyon. Ring in the New Year with the contemporary jazz sounds of George Howard in the Cascade Lounge. New Year's Eve celebrations start at 10 p.m. and wrap up at 1 a.m. Toss back a complimentary champagne toast and nosh on party favors at midnight. Reservations are not required.                Catch Some New Year's Pigskin. Herald in the first morning of the New Year with a rejuvenating                breakfast buffet in the Canyon Café served from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. $24 adults, $12.95 children 12                and under. When the stomach is satisfied, grab a seat and watch football in the                Cascade Lounge from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., while keeping the hunger at bay with traditional bar fare.                These are the best seats in town!

Feast on Fine Fare at Tucson's Upscale Resorts. The Westin La Paloma Resort & Spa will ring in 2009 with a culinary celebration. On New Year's Eve, tuck into a four-course Dinner Menu created by Chef Serge Delage in the Desert Garden Bistro. A glass of champagne will accompany each meal, from just $50 per person (not including tax or gratuity). Entertainment for both the Bistro and the Lounge will be provided by The Todd Mellor Trio and will culminate with a champagne toast in the Lounge at Midnight. Dance the Night Away at Arizona Inn with the TSO. Ring in 2009 with fine music, dining and dancing to the tunes of the Tucson Symphony Orchestra at the historic Arizona Inn. For just $195 per person, enjoy an all-inclusive night of fun featuring classical and jazz music; a multi-course signature meal created by Arizona Inn's head chef; an open bar; champagne toasts and more. Celebrate 2009 at the New Year's Competition Powwow. Ring in the New Year at the annual New Year's Competition Powwow, from Jan. 2-4 at Rillito Race Park. Celebrations will include dancers from more than 50 Native American tribes (Hopi, Pasqua Yaqui, Nahuj Ollin and more); authentic handmade crafts; children's activity areas; traditional Indian foods; birds-of-prey exhibit; dancing, singing and drum contests; an authentic tee-pee village; and an Indian information booth. Family Friendly New Year's Fun. The Downtown Tucson Partnership presents FIRST NIGHT - a New Year's Eve celebration of arts, culture and community. This family-friendly and alcohol-free festival will bring together Tucsonans of all ages in a welcoming atmosphere to enjoy multicultural music, dance, comedy, magic, children's activities and more. Share the fun and anticipation as the evening builds toward a grand finale of spectacular sights and sounds at midnight. From 4 p.m. to midnight on Dec. 31, seven locations in Downtown Tucson will showcase a variety of family-oriented entertainment. The Leo Rich Theater at TCC, Scottish Rite Temple and Beowulf Alley Theatre are ticketed venues featuring Hispanic roots music and dance, bluegrass, jazz, blues and world music, comedy and more. The Fox Tucson Theatre will screen movies, including children's features from 4-6 p.m. La Placita Village and the Leo Rich Theater Plaza will feature continuous FREE entertainment during the festival, and the Tucson Children's Museum will present FREE entertainment outdoors from 4-8 p.m. A festival badge will allow attendees inside the Children's Museum for numerous hands-on activities. Admission buttons are $12 for adults, $6 for children 6-12 and free for little ones 5 and younger. Paid admission allows entry into ALL venues. Buttons will go on sale Dec. 3 at all Tucson locations of Bookmans and Food City, the Fox Theatre and online at www.downtowntucson.org.
