18TH ANNUAL TUCSON JEWISH FILM FESTIVAL: JANUARY 10, 2009

TUCSON, Ariz. (Dec. 8, 2008) - The Tucson Jewish Community Center again presents the nationally renown, 18th Annual, Tucson Jewish Film Festival, beginning January 10, 2009 with daily events through Jan. 22. Screenings and other events will also be held on Feb. 15, Feb. 22 and March 1.

• The Festival will kick-off Jan. 10 with the "Kung Pao Kosher Comedy" opening night celebration featuring standup comedienne Lisa Geduldig at 7:30 p.m., followed by an 8 p.m. screening of Noodle. Sunday's lineup embraces Special Needs issues, and includes a 2 p.m. screening of Praying with Lior, followed by a 4 p.m. talk featuring UA Psychology Department Director Ilana Trachtman. The evening will wrap up with an Arts For All Adult Ensemble double feature of Leaving Paradise: Jews of Jamaica and Praying with Lior.

• Monday's 7 p.m. screening will be My Father, My Lord, and Tuesday's selections include a 6 p.m. showing of Eyewitness, 60 Years and Love and Dance at 7:30. On Wednesday, Jan. 14, the Yiddish Film Matinee at 1 p.m. will feature Zayn Vaybs Lubovnik's His Wife's Lover, followed by a 7 p.m. double feature showing Torte Bluma and Blessed is the Match: The Life and Death of Hannah Senesh with special guest Director Roberta Grossman. Thursday's films will be Circumcise Me and Quest for the Missing Piece at 7 p.m., and Friday's 1 p.m. matinee will be At Hone in Utopia with special guest Director Michal Goldman.

• On Saturday, Jan. 17, the film Sixty Six will start at 7:30 p.m., followed by the Tucson Jewish Film Festival 18th Anniversary & Bar Mitzvah Party featuring live music from the Saul Kaye Jewish Blues Band.

• Sunday's Holocaust Education Film Series includes a 1 p.m. double feature of Paying for Justice and The House on August Street, followed by a 4 p.m. double feature of Toyland and Swimming in Auschwitz with special guest Director Jon Kean. At 7 p.m., Sports Film Night begins, featuring the double features Jewish Women in American Sport and The First Basket.

• Monday's screening includes a 7 p.m. showing of Refusenik, with My Mexican Shiva showing on Tuesday, Jan. 20 at 7 p.m. Wednesday's 1 p.m. double feature includes Leaving Paradise: The Jews of Jamaica and Salonica with special guests Irving Senor (Holocaust survivor) and Dr. David Graizbord of the UA Center for Judaic Studies. Wednesday's film will be Constantine's Sword at 7 p.m., and Thursday's showing of Toyland and The Secret will start at 7 p.m. at The Loft Cinema.

• On Sunday, February 15, the Festival will resume with a 7 p.m. screening of The Year My Parents Went on Vacation. The following Sunday (Feb. 22), viewers can catch a noon screening of Mishehu Larutz Ito's Someone to Run With at the UA's Gallagher Theater, followed by Noodle at 2:30 p.m., and Between Two Notes at 4:30.

• The festival's finale on March 1 will feature Yair Dalal in concert at the Fox Tucson Theatre.
