27th Annual La Frontera Tucson International Mariachi Conference
Kicks Off April 22
TUCSON, Ariz. (Jan. 13, 2009) -- La Frontera Tucson International Mariachi Conference (LFTIMC) is celebrating its 27th year April 22-25, 2009. This conference is a permanent fixture on the Tucson cultural calendar and beckons mariachi and baile folklórico aficionados from around the country. It is a celebration of folklórico and mariachi music starting with student workshops and culminating in the Fiesta de Garibaldi, an all day party in the park.

WHAT: Student Workshops
WHERE: Tucson Convention Center
WHEN: Wednesday, April 22 through Friday, April 24
REGISTRATION: Students of all ages can sign up to take traditional classes taught by professional mariachi musicians and baile folklórico dancers, including Nati Cano, Rafael Zamarripa and Jesus "Chuy" Guzman. For two-and -one-half days the students have the opportunity to play and dance with their peers and have total immersion in their disciplines.
WHAT: The Participant Showcase
WHERE: TCC Arena
WHEN: Thursday, April 23, 7 p.m.
COST: $10, children 12 and under free
The students that take part in the mariachi and baile folklórico workshops have the opportunity to strut their stuff at the Participant Showcase on April 24. This event is a glimpse into the future of mariachi and baile folklórico. The young stars take the stage to show their talent and what they have learned in the previous days at the workshops. An evening not to be missed!
WHAT: Serenata y Cena, Pre-Concert Dinner

COST: $40 pre-paid
Enjoy delightful mariachi music from mariachi master musicians while partaking in a delicious Mexican meal. This pre-Espectacular Concert dinner is a great way to begin an evening of mariachi entertainment.
WHAT: Espectacular Concert
WHERE: Tucson Convention Center Arena
WHEN: Friday, April 24, 7:30 p.m.
COST: $48, $68 and $88 (includes T.C.C. Facility Fee)
This concert is a gala celebration of all things mariachi and baile folklorico. The workshop students open the show with their high energy, picking up the audience with their enthusiasm and creating an opening awash with color. The professional mariachi musicians and singers, including Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán and Mariachi Los Camperos de Nati Cano continue the visual and auditory adventure with their heart-felt renditions of sones and canciones rancheras.

WHERE: St. Augustine Cathedral, downtown Tucson
WHEN: Saturday, April 25, 9 a.m.
The Mariachi Mass, featuring Los Camperos de Nati Cano, is a wonderful service to celebrate the joy of the music and to give thanks for the blessings of the conference.
WHAT: Fiesta de Garibaldi
WHERE: DeMeester Performance Center at Reid Park, 22nd & Country Club
WHEN: Saturday, April 25, from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m.
COST: $5 for adults and kids (12 and under) are free! Immediately following the mass the Fiesta de
Garibaldi begins. The fiesta is a recreation of the sights and sounds of Garibaldi Plaza in Mexico City, a place known for spontaneous mariachi performances and gatherings. This day-long party features fabulous music, delicious Mexican food, and numerous arts and crafts vendors to tempt your every whim. Bring your family and spend the day under a shady tree listening to great music and being part of this great community of mariachi aficionados.
