Mayor Walkup Guides Families Through A Place of Refuge
At Family Friendly Weekends Program Kickoff
Tucson, Ariz., January 15, 2009. Tucson Mayor Bob Walkup will lead the new Family Friendly Highlights Tour at the Tucson Museum of Art to launch the Glassman Foundation's Family Friendly Weekends presented by the Arizona Daily Star, Saturday, January 24, 2009. Mayor Walkup will lead children and families through an in-depth, interactive presentation of three significant pieces of the exhibition A Place of Refuge: Maynard Dixon's Arizona. The tour will focus on three of four lunettes that Dixon was commissioned to create by the Southern Pacific Railroad for the Historic Train Depot in Downtown Tucson. A plein air painting workshop will be offered for children in the lobby and courtyard of the Tucson Museum of Art until 1:00 p.m. Admission to the Tucson Museum of Art will be waived 10:00 a.m. -1:00 p.m.
The Family Friendly Highlights tour was created specifically to enhance the Tucson Museum of Art's family offerings and to support the Glassman Foundation's Family Friendly Weekends presented by the Arizona Daily Star. The tour will be offered on the second Saturday of every month.

About Glassman Foundation's Family Friendly Weekends Presented by the Arizona Daily Star
The Family Friendly Weekends program serves to promote events and activities for local and visiting families to experience in Tucson's core. The goal of the program is to educate and inform Tucsonans about the myriad of family-oriented things there are to do in our own community. Come celebrate the year of the Ox during this festive Chinese New Year's celebration. This event will be in partnership with the Tucson Chinese Association and activities will include a Dragon Dance, children's martial arts, calligraphy, Lion Dance and more.
