Special Guest Linda Ronstadt
Joins the La Frontera Tucson International Mariachi Conference Espectacular Concert

TUCSON, Ariz. (March 4, 2009) -- Native Tucsonan Linda Ronstadt is back and the special guest at the La Frontera Tucson International Mariachi Conference's Espectacular Concert on April 24, 7 pm at the Tucson Convention Center Arena.

Her extensive career has made our city proud, spanning many genres, including pop, rock, jazz and of course as the hippiest ambassador of traditional Mexican songs. Linda is a wonderful icon of American music, consummate artist and a pioneer of synthesizing style. Among her many accomplishments she has over 31 gold and platinum records; 11 Grammy Awards; starred on Broadway which garnered her a Tony nomination; recorded the theme to An American Tail, an animated movie; and recorded a children's lullaby album. Credited with being among those merging the meld of folklórico dance in mariachi stage shows it will be a joy to hear her perform.

Also appearing is Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlan, El Mejor Mariachi del Mundo (the best mariachi in the world). Formed in 1898 in Tecalitlan, Mexico, they are a 5th generation mariachi offering a wealth of tradition and variety of Mexican songs with wonderful compositions and classical melodies. They have recorded more than 90 CDs and appeared in over 200 films. They were one of four mariachis that collaborated with Linda on her very well received Canciones de Mi Padre that won her a Grammy in 1987.

For their 23rd consecutive year performing in Tucson is 2009 Grammy award winners Mariachi Los Camperos de Nati Cano. Nati Cano is credited with taking the mariachi tradition from the streets of Mexico to some of the most prestigious concert halls in the world. Los Camperos also collaborated with Linda on her Canciones de Mi Padre as well as her Mas Canciones album. In 2008 they released their third CD with Smithsonian Folkways, Amor, Dolor y Lagrimas: Musica Ranchera and won the 2009 Grammy for Regional Mexican Album.

Tickets to the Espectacular Concert are $48, $68 and $88 (includes T.C.C. Facility Fee) and can be purchased by going to the TCC Ticket Office, online at www.ticketmaster.com or through the LFTIMC Coordinator's office, 520-838-3908.

Each year proceeds from the LFTIMC benefit children's services of La Frontera Center, Inc. This non-profit organization reaches out into the community to help where other social programs fall short. With the continued assistance from the LFTIMC, La Frontera Center, Inc continues to make a positive impact on the families and children of Southern Arizona.
