Omni Concierge and TAA Receive Copper Star Awards
TUCSON, Ariz. (June 17, 2009) - The Metropolitan Tucson Convention & Visitors Bureau (MTCVB) presented two 2009 Copper Star Awards. The Individual Award recipient is Johnny Fenton, Certified Tourism Ambassador and Concierge at Omni Tucson National Resort. The Corporate Award recipient is the Tucson Airport Authority, presented to Bonnie Allen, President/CEO for enrolling 71 airport employees in TAP class.
About Copper Star Awards
Awards are presented annually to one Certified Tourism Ambassador who has contributed significantly to Tucson's tourism industry and to the company that has enrolled the most employees in the Tucson Ambassadors Program (TAP) during the year.
2008 Award Winners
The first Copper Star awards were presented during National Tourism Week at first anniversary celebration of TAP on May 12, 2008 at The Westin La Paloma Resort & Spa. The Individual Award recipient was Tucson Mayor Robert Walkup and the Corporate Award recipient was ASUA Bookstores, presented to Director Frank Farias for enrolling 29 employees in TAP class.
About Certified Tourism Ambassadors
Since the program's inception in March 2007 over 850 people have earned a Certified Tourism Ambassador (CTA) designation-a national designation recognized in 12 cities across the country. In 2009 alone, over 450 people in Tucson's tourism industry have participated in MTCVB's Tucson Ambassadors Program to earn a CTA designation.
Tucson's CTAs are active and passionate about Tucson. In 2009, they have volunteered their time in five community activities such as the Tucson Festival of Books. They have also volunteered to welcome event attendees and groups at the Tucson International Airport during our busy tourist season
Because our CTAs are so dedicated and set such a stellar example, MTCVB recognizes an individual and a company for their outstanding contributions to Tucson tourism through their participation in the Tucson Ambassadors Program.
