MTCVB Draws BMX 2009 Southwest Nationals Competition to Tucson

TUCSON, Ariz. (August 4, 2009) - August 7-9, over 1500 Bicycle Motocross or BMX racers will converge at the Tucson Convention Center to race for American Bicycle Association's (ABA) 2009 Southwest National titles. Over 3000 cubic yards of dirt were brought into the TCC arena and shaped into a track meeting ABA-BMX regulations that will challenge BMXers 3-56+ years of age.

This is the second year the event has been held in Tucson and organizers are committed to return next year. MTCVB estimates the event to have $2.1 million impact on the community resultant from an estimated 4000 out of town participants, suppliers, and spectators attending the event.

Photo and video opportunity
Friday afternoon and Saturday morning, MTCVB and ABA-BMX will offer local media the opportunity to ride the course and conduct interviews with organizers and racers.

Tucson native Corbin Sharrah, US Jr. Elite National Champion will be available for interview when he is not racing Friday afternoon, Saturday, and Sunday. Corbin has just returned from a World Championship event in Australia and, after the Southwest Nationals in Tucson will be off to South Africa to compete in the first Olympic qualifier event of the year.
