Scare Your Boots Off - Tucson Style
There are adventures galore in Tucson and Southern Arizona that will leave Halloween thrill-seekers shaking in their boots this October. The Old Pueblo is crawling with creepy things to do for grown-ups and kids alike. Accompany Tucson's paranormal investigators to catch a glimpse of some long-time, long-gone Downtown Tucson residents. Get the full and freaky Halloween experience at the 2009 Nightfall: Harvest of Fear extravaganza at Old Tucson Studios. Scare yourself senseless at "flashlight night" in the Buckelew Farms corn maze. Sit among the haunted souls in the Fox Tucson Theatre for a screening of an expressionist vampire flick, Nosferatu (1922), or explore death through cinema at the All Souls International Film Festival in the cool and artsy Loft Cinema.
Those less inclined to tempt fate may choose to participate in the more tame fun of pumpkin picking at Annie's Orchards or a daytime romp in a corn maze at Buckelew Farms. Join Reid Park Zoo's Howl-o-ween celebration or safe trick-or-treating at the lively and free Spooky Kids Halloween Costume Contest on Fourth Avenue. Embark on a magical adventure of at the Haunted Ruins at the Valley of the Moon or join some "not so spooky" Halloween games and activities at the Tucson Children's Museum.
Remember that the fun isn't over on Halloween night. Dia de los Muertos events, alter displays, and celebrations begin in September and continue through November in Southern Arizona. Tucson's Dia de los Muertos celebrations are world renown and a definite "must see". Celebrate and remember those who have passed on at alters presented by Tohono Chul Park, La Pilita, and Tucson Museum of Art. Witness the soulful and celebratory two-mile All Souls Procession and offering to those who have passed during All Souls Weekend.
