Science Exhibit "Mars and Beyond" to go Dark for the Summer
Tucson, Arizona - The Science Downtown exhibit "Mars and Beyond" has decided to close its doors for the summer due to the street closure on Congress. The decision to go dark was made earlier this week by members of the board. Normal business hours are Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 10 am to 6 pm. The final day for business will be April 29.
Board member Don Martin said, "Unfortunately, due to Sun Link's construction we will close our doors for the months that Congress is closed to traffic. Much of our attendance is walk-ins and last week, when the street closed, our foot traffic came to a standstill. We support the Streetcar Construction 100% and recognize that street closure is a difficult phase for businesses along the construction route. We realize that the construction of Sun Link is an important part of Downtown Revitalization and the long-term health of the Downtown area. At the same time, businesses have to take appropriate actions and this is a necessary step in the process."
"Mars and Beyond" is a locally developed exhibit that is a collaboration between UA Science and private investors. Its parent company, Science Downtown is a 501C3 (non-profit) whose goal is to bring science education, awareness and enjoyment to the community - and to highlight U of A science-related projects. It follows 3 other exhibits-Bodies, Titanic and King Tut at 300 E. Congress St. next to the Rialto Theater. Their doors opened October 20 after 55 days of planning and execution. The exhibit includes artwork of Robert McCall; Biosphere2, HiRISE Camera, Phoenix Lander, OSIRIS-REx displays and 2 theaters.
