Day 1 Add Day Trip To myTucson

1. Benson, AZ Add To myTucson Vacation Planner
520-586-4293, at the junction of I-10 and AZ Hwy. 80.
Founded in 1880 when the trans-continental Southern Pacific Railroad came through Southern Arizona, Benson was this region’s railroad hub until 1910. Its lifeblood was the copper and silver flowing from neighboring mining communities. Not far from Benson lies the adobe ruins of the Butterfield Stage Coach Depot, once a busy mercantile and rest area for cross-country travelers. While Benson’s past is preserved in its historic downtown and replicated train depot, today it is best known as the home of Kartchner Caverns State Park.

2. Tombstone, AZ Add To myTucson Vacation Planner
888-457-3929, off AZ Hwy. 80, between Benson and Bisbee. Allow 3–5 hours.
Learn Wild West history at Tombstone Courthouse State Park and at Tombstone’s Historama. See daily re-enactments of the shoot-out staged at the real O.K. Corral, and other live action at Helldorado Amphitheater and Six-Gun City. Visit gunfighters’ graves and unusual tombstones at Boothill Graveyard. See more history at Rose Tree Museum. Tour the dusty streets by stagecoach and visit hot spots of the past where period-costumed entertainers sing and serve sarsaparillas and barbecue: Crystal Palace Saloon, Big Nose Kate’s Saloon, Bird Cage Theatre.
