1. Mission San Xavier del Bac Add To myTucson Vacation Planner
294-2624, off I-19 at exit 92. Free. 7 a.m.–5 p.m. Allow 2–3 hours.
Once part of a chain of churches that stretched from northern Mexico to the western U.S. This brilliant white structure is considered the “Sistine Chapel of North America” for the intricate paintings on the walls and ceiling. It is still a Catholic parish serving the Tohono O’odham community for whom it was established in the late 1600s.

2. St. Ann's Catholic Church Add To myTucson Vacation Planner
398-2646, off I-19 at exit 34, Tubac, AZ. Open for services. Allow 1–2 hours.
A village map/self-guided walking tour is available from any of the town merchants and at the Tubac Presidio State Historic Park. This tour of the thriving artists’ community of Tubac leads to charming St. Ann’s Catholic Church. A place of worship almost continuously for 250 years.

3. Tumacacori National Historical Park Add To myTucson Vacation Planner
398-2341, off I-19, near Tubac. $3, under 16 free. Grounds and museum open 8 a.m.–5 p.m. Allow 1 hour.
This massive adobe ruin was originally built around 1800 by Franciscan priests. It was abandoned before completion, later gutted by Apache warriors and various fortune hunters. Exhibits in the museum depict early American and Spanish history. Self-guided walks lead through the garden and church.
