This small Catholic monastery sits on 92 acres and contains a pecan orchard, beautiful chapel, small convent, and a cross tall enough to be seen from the highway. Bird sanctuary trail, small lake, and a museum with artifacts from around the world.

Off AZ Hwy. 80, 3rd and Safford Streets, Tombstone, AZ. Open for services. Allow 30 minutes. The oldest existing Protestant church in Arizona, constructed in 1881.

520-378-2950, off AZ Hwy. 92, 10310 S. Twin Oaks Rd., Hereford, AZ. Open 9 a.m. to sunset, weather permitting. This shrine includes a 75-foot Celtic cross, 31-foot statue of the Madonna, and a small chapel. All faiths welcome.

520-432-7006, off AZ Hwy. 80, Howell Rd., Bisbee, AZ. Open for services. Allow 30 minutes–1 hour. Dedicated in 1904. One of the rear stained-glass windows is a Tiffany. Across Clawsen Ave. is a Methodist Church built in 1901 by the congregation, many of them miners.

Off AZ Hwy. 80, between 10th and 11th Streets and D and E Avenues, Douglas, AZ. Open for services. Allow 2 hours. In the historic district of Douglas. Listed in Guinness Book of Records as the only intersection in the nation containing four different churches: Southern Baptist, Presbyterian, Lutheran, and Methodist. If time permits, take a quick jaunt across the border to Agua Prieta, Mexico—the gateway to Rio Sonora and the many Kino missions in Mexico. In Agua Prieta’s beautiful downtown square, see ornate church architecture displayed at La Iglesia de Guadalupe.
