The museum is really an internationally acclaimed garden and zoo with hundreds of species of plants and animals in natural desert settings. Restaurant dining is available.

2. Saguaro National Park West Add To myTucson Vacation Planner
733-5158, 10 miles west of Tucson on Kinney Road, 30 minutes from downtown Tucson. $10/vehicle. Allow 2–4 hours.
This mountainous park is a popular place to see the massive saguaro cactus, which grows only in the Sonoran Desert. Stop in to learn about the park and its wildlife. Then choose from the many picnic areas and trailheads to observe desert species.

3. Organ Pipe National Monument Add To myTucson Vacation Planner
387-7742, 387-6849, off AZ Hwy. 85, south of Ajo, AZ. $8/vehicle, valid for one week. Open 24 hours. Visitor center 8 a.m.–5 p.m.
This national monument was established to protect the unique organ pipe cactus and its Sonoran Desert habitat. The monument supports 26 other species of cactus as well as a multitude of wildlife. Many species are nocturnal.
