Farmers' Markets in Tucson and Southern Arizona

Farmer's Market in Tucson, Arizona

Fresh-food lovers can find everything from apples to zucchini at farmers' markets in Tucson and Southern Arizona. This region boasts a great assortment of direct-sales farms offering a variety of vegetables, fruits, nuts, honey, salsas, jellies, baked goods, and even cactus fruit! Shoppers here can purchase fresh foods year-round.

The Santa Cruz River Farmers' Market operates February through November near Downtown Tucson. As one of "America's Top 10 Farmers' Markets" according to Eating Well magazine, it sells locally grown produce and more, directly from the growers. Shoppers will find regional specialties, such as Mexican-style pastries, and unique desert foods, including mesquite flour and prickly-pear syrup which, are made from native plants.

On weekends, shoppers can gather fresh-grown produce and sample local culture at neighborhood farmers' markets throughout the city. One of the newest markets is open on the University of Arizona campus from September through April and offers fruits, vegetables, and artisanal foods to college crowds.

South of Tucson in places like Willcox, Sonoita, and Amado, customers can pick their own produce right from the vine at family farms. If you don't have time to explore their fields and orchards, many farmers sell just-picked fruits and vegetables from roadside stands. Some farms, including Apple Annie's Orchard, host seasonal events, such as the Peach Mania Festival, Apple Harvest Celebration, and Fall Pumpkin Festival.
