Tucson's Year-Round Gem, Mineral & Fossil Itinerary
Each winter Tucson becomes home to more than 40 gem shows, drawing 55,000 visitors in the span of three weeks! Every September a few shows open their doors for a long weekend after Labor Day.
Did you know that the rest of the year, visitors can visit select gem show venues that are open by appointment? And that our mines, museums, artist studios and other venues showcase the best of our history and talent as it relates to gems, minerals, fossils and rocks?

The Arizona Mineral Education provides links to mineral museums, photo galleries, and education outreach programs. It is a resource for educators, students, and the Arizona public.
Additionally, the Arizona Geological Survey is a Downtown Tucson resource for all rockhounds and hobbyists seeking more information on the history and geologic character of the state. Maps, books, free information and ideas for GeoTourism Day Trips are available from the helpful staff or their website.
The Old Pueblo Lapidary Club offers classes in cabachoning, faceting, silversmithing, beginning and advanced wire wrapping, enameling and casting. A full fabrication laboratory is available at their facility, and they hold special events and field trips throughout the year.
