Tucson GLBT
Gay-Friendly Tucson
Tucson’s relaxed, progressive attitude makes it feel like more like a small town where everyone knows your name, rather than a multifaceted metropolis of more than one million. This accepting outlook has helped Tucson become one of the country’s most gay-friendly cities, boasting GLBT social, cultural and political organizations, and a variety of gay-owned and -friendly businesses. In 2003, Tucson became the first municipality in Arizona to enact a domestic partner registry law; the city also has been open to gay public officials, both elected and appointed.
But what may surprise GLBT visitors the most about Tucson is that its hospitable attitude extends beyond the usual gay-friendly hotels and attractions. Everybody is welcome to kick up their heels in Tucson, from upscale restaurants and trendy shopping plazas to authentic dude ranches and stress-busting spas.
