As motifs, phrases, and timbres blossomed in her mind, she began thinking about players who could help her realize this specific sound. “Making a record is like making a movie, and I’m the director looking for the perfect actor for each role.” For her new quartet, Hiromi’s Sonicwonder, she cast bassist Hadrien Feraud, drummer Gene Coye, and trumpet player Adam O’Ferrill.  Hiromi has been called “One of jazz piano’s most brazenly virtuosic players.” ---The New York Times

April 23, 7pm - Cinema Tucsón presents The In Between

(Robie Flores, USA/Mexico, 2024, 84 min. In Spanish and English with English and Spanish subtitles  IN PERSON: Director for Robie Flores

Following the death of her brother, director Robie Flores returns to her hometown of Eagle Pass, on the Texas-Mexico border, yearning to turn back time. Immersed in the unruly experiences of adolescence—quinceañeras, Selena, Rio Grande River excursions, teen makeovers, and more—she rediscovers the home her brother adored, and she once overlooked. What emerges is a playful dance between personal and collective coming-of-age, as she reclaims joy in the aftermath of grief. Through her family’s journey, Flores unveils a nuanced and unexpected portrait of the borderlands—one that transcends headlines to offer a deeply human perspective. In celebrating the resilience and spirit of this bi-cultural, bi-national community, the film reveals a place not defined by crisis, but by the vibrancy of those who call it home.

April 24, 7:30pm - Blood, Sweat & Tears

No one can argue BS&T invented a new style of music. Blood, Sweat & Tears is not the first band to ever use a horn section, but they are the first to fuse it with rock, jazz, and some blues thrown in for good measure. From the first ensemble in the late sixties practicing in a loft on Bleeker Street in New York’s Greenwich Village and having crowds clapping on the street below between songs, founding member and drummer Bobby Colomby knew they were on the right course. Since then, the band has never stopped touring for over 50 years. Blood Sweat & Tears has had many configurations over its 50 plus years of touring but one thing for sure is that the music is timeless, and fans are never disappointed. Blood Sweat & Tears takes young musicians and prepares them for life in the music industry. We are proud of the fact that over the past 50 years the majority of musicians that have passed through BS&T have gone on to fame as Players, Producers, Arrangers and solo performers more than any other band on the planet.

April 25, 7:30pm - An Evening with Crystal Gayle

Crystal was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry as a member in January 2017 by her sister Loretta Lynn.  The Academy of Country Music recognized Crystal with a 2016 Cliffie Stone Pioneer Award for her lifetime achievements in country music.  And in 2009 Crystal was honored to receive her own star on the fabled Hollywood Walk of Fame. These honors are fitting tributes to Crystal who has been a favorite of audiences of country and popular music since attaining national prominence with her first chart records in the mid-seventies.  Renowned for her classic recording of her timeless signature song Don’t It Make My Brown Eyes Blue, Crystal also scored with her multi-format hits You’ve Been Talking In Your Sleep, When I Dream, Half the Way and her duet with Eddie Rabbitt, Just You and I.  Crystal has released over twenty number one hits and has been awarded numerous times by the Grammy’s, the Country Music Association, the Academy of Country Music, the American Music Awards, and the American Music Operators Association

April 30, 7:30pm - Mariachi Herencia De Mexico La Nueva Generacion Tour

The historic tradition of mariachi music has its roots of origin in cities such as Guadalajara and Mexico City. As the ever-evolving genre’s influence spread, it reached Chicago and birthed the Mariachi Herencia de México. The energetic, virtuosic Latin GRAMMY-nominated group has issued chart-topping albums and performed across the North American continent. Nuestra Herencia, their 2017 debut album, topped the Latin streaming charts. 2018’s Herencia de la Tierra Mía was produced by celebrated industry veteran Javier Limón and charted atop all major streaming services. 2019’s Esencia topped industry charts, while a second volume, issued in 2020 performed similarly. In 2022, Herederos appeared as the group were performing a wildly successful North American tour.
