February 19, 2025, TUCSON, AZ – Ballet Tucson concludes its 2024/2025 Season with an exciting program featuring works by some of today’s most innovative choreographers. Modern Masters features four diverse works that showcase the distinct range and style of these world-renowned dancemakers and beautifully emphasize the athleticism, artistry, and nuance of the dancers of Ballet Tucson.
The four choreographers featured in this exhilarating show are Justin Peck, Andrea Schermoly, Kiyon Ross, and Chieko Imada. Two-time Tony Award-winner Justin Peck is one of the world's top dancemakers and Ballet Tucson will be the third ballet company ever to perform his virtuosic Pulcinella Variations, made for the New York City Ballet. Justin Peck is one world’s most sought-after choreographers, creating for top international ballet companies and Broadway musicals, in addition to his television and film work including Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story. Internationally acclaimed choreographer Andrea Schermoly delivers an electrifying neo-classical ballet, Swivet, that demonstrates the versatility and athleticism of its dancers. Audiences were awestruck by Schermoly’s Klein Perspectives at our 2023 Fall Concert and we are proud to add another of this internationally acclaimed choreographer’s works to our repertoire. ə{Schwa} is a passionate Tango inspired ballet set to the music of Astor Piazzolla by Kiyon Ross, a celebrated American choreographer and Associate Artistic Director of Pacific Northwest Ballet. His energetic and engaging style has captured the hearts of audiences across the country for over a decade and this is his fourth repertory contribution to Ballet Tucson. Hibiki, a
compelling contemporary piece, is one of Associate Artistic Director and Resident Choreographer Chieko Imada’s most beloved works. Hibiki (meaning echo in Japanese) is a fixture of Ballet Tucson repertoire because of its striking modern choreography and driving Taiko drum music.
Ballet Tucson’s Modern Masters is a must-see event for dance lovers and attendees will be the first to hear the company’s exciting 2025/2026 Season announcement! Tickets start at $34 and group tickets are available through Ticketmaster and the Tucson Convention Center box office. For more information and venue guidelines visit ballettucson.org/modern-masters.
