Tucson, AZ-- The museum’s popular walking tours and our History in the Park events are in full swing this month.

 

Learn the history of the region on one of our Fort Lowell Neighborhood Walking Tours, which will be held this month on Nov. 4 and Nov. 18 from 10 am to 12:30 pm. Tours are approximately 2.5 miles long and cost $30/person or $20/member. History in the Park: Salute the Troops – The Military History of Arizona will be held on Nov. 23 from 10 am to 1 pm. Re-enactors will portray the various garrisons that have been stationed in Arizona from the 18thand 19th centuries. Historical displays and activities will give visitors insight into the lives and duties of the troops that served in our state. The Tucson Civil War Roundtable will also be in attendance with a display on Civil War soldiers, civilians and Arizona's role in the Civil War. Hands-on family activities will focus on technologies and tools that arrived in Tucson due to the military presence, such as the heliograph and a telegraph. This event is included in admission.

 

Fort Lowell was a military supply post active from 1873 to 1891. The museum is located in Fort Lowell Park at 2900 N. Craycroft Rd. in an 1880s reproduction adobe commanding officers’ quarters. Visitors see displays about the purpose and history of the fort, its soldiers and their families, In addition, displays are included about the Apache of the region and the pre-history of the area seen at the nearby Hardy site. The museum is open from 10 am to 3 pm Wednesdays through Saturdays. Admission to the museum is $5/person and free for those five and younger. Fort Lowell and Presidio Museum members are free.
