Tucson, AZ---This month, History in the Park will focus on Leisure and Baseball. The event will be held Jan. 25 from 10 am-1 pm. This History in the Park will also include two 1860s vintage baseball games between the Tucson Saguaros and the Bisbee Black Sox (seen below) of the Arizona Vintage Base Ball League. The teams will play at UDALL PARK FIELD 4 (7290 E TANQUE VERDE RD.) The games were going to be played in Fort Lowell Park, but lighting is being installed on the field that was going to be used, and this project will not be complete before Jan. 25. In addition to the baseball games, activities will be held at the Fort Lowell Museum, 2900 N. Craycroft. Attendees at the museum will be able to experience the history of Fort Lowell firsthand with a variety of demonstrations and information tables about how people enjoyed their leisure time while they lived at Fort Lowell. This event is included in admission.
Fort Lowell was a military supply post active from 1873 to 1891. The museum is located in Fort Lowell Park at 2900 N. Craycroft Rd. in an 1880s reproduction adobe officers’ quarters. Visitors see displays about the purpose and history of the fort, its soldiers and their families, In addition, displays are included about the Apache of the region and the pre-history of the area seen at the nearby Hardy site. The museum is open from 10 am to 3 pm Thursdays through Saturdays. Admission to the museum is $5/person and free for those five and younger as well as Fort Lowell and Presidio Museum members.
