Tucson, AZ (October 15, 2024) – Tucson’s favorite car-free, carefree “open streets” event is finally back. Living Streets Alliance’s 21st Cyclovia Tucson event is just around the corner on Sunday, October 27th from 9:00AM to 3:00PM. Connecting Downtown and South Tucson, 2.25 miles of city streets will be temporarily closed to car traffic and opened up for people to walk, bike, roll, play and connect at this free event.
The Interactive Route Map is now live, making it easy to preview everything you’ll find along the route. Activities, live entertainment, food trucks, free bike repair, giveaways and more will be concentrated into five unique Activity Hubs along the route. Arizona Complete Health Hub at Mission View Elementary
Title Sponsor Arizona Complete Health is pulling out all the stops for their hub at Mission View Elementary, the southern terminus of the route, with free mammograms, prostate screenings, diabetes screenings, and more. Enjoy live performances by Pueblo High’s Mariachi Aztlan and by Ballet Folklorico Tapatio while making beautiful flowers to decorate your bike, scooter, or stroller. Barrio Books will have their mobile pop-up trailer on site with free books and reading activities for the kids, while Arkos Health will have free face-painting for kids and a spin-the-wheel for treats and prizes. Make sure to check out the beautiful artwork at the Indigenous Art Market co-organized by artists Lucky Salway (Tohono O'odham) and David Valenzuela (Pascua Yaqui), celebrating indigenous artists and their histories and connection to South Tucson and Barrio Libre.
Luna Y Sol Hub
Get a preview of South Tucson’s very first locally owned coffee shop, Luna y Sol, opening later this Fall. Grab a hot or cold beverages, pull up a chair, and watch all of the Cyclovia fun roll through from their pop-up "Nana’s Lounge" and enjoy cumbia beats provided by Barrio Restoration all day long. Make Way for Books will have supplies to make your own bookmark, and free picture books for families to take home! Before you go, snag a free plant to take home with you from Tucson Audobon Society in Luna y Sol's pollinator garden (while supplies last).
Ochoa Community School Hub
Ochoa has become a hub of connection to land and home, with rich histories of residents in the neighborhood going back 100 years, including some of our highlights! DJ Guillermocito and fam will be playing all day. Pull up a chair and enjoy delicious popovers from D&J Fry Bread across the street, or vegan birria tacos from Ensenada Street Food. Explore local heritage crops with Mission Garden or learn about local housing solutions with The Homing Project. Ochoa Community School’s field will be open with ample shade from their solar panels for people to enjoy. Have a rest in the middle of the route, or join a short burst zumba class or even have a go on one of the "mutant" bikes on a mini obstacle course from BICAS.
Drachman Montessori Hub
Test your bicycle handling skills on a fun obstacle course from El Grupo and GABA and play to win supplies for your bike needs like lube, sealant, and even electrolytes from Epic Rides. Refill your water bottle at Tucson Water’s Hydration Station and learn how Green Stormwater infrastructure allows us to take advantage of stormwater to grow more native vegetation in the desert and cool our streets. Watershed Management Group will even have tips for how to create your own backyard microclimate through passive gardening and native plants. And, finally, don’t forget to practice mounting your bike on the [parked] Sun Tran bus—next time you grab a free ride on Sun Tran you’ll be able to do it with ease!
Banner—University Medicine and Banner—University Family Care Hub at Armory Park
This hub has it all! Located at the northern terminus of the route Banner—University Medicine and Banner—University Family Care will be providing info, giveaways, and free health screenings. Enjoy music curated by DJs from KXCI Community Radio as you mingle with dozens of other vendors and activities in the area. Create your own button and win prizes with Pima County Department of Environmental Quality's Clear Air program and stop by the AARP Arizona booth for a chance to win a free bike and helmet! Make sure to grab new Cyclovia merchandise from the Living Streets Alliance Hospitality Tent and learn how to get involved in other fun biking and walking events and advocacy year-round. Pop inside the Children’s Museum Tucson and take a break from the sun—you’ll receive one free child admission per family when you show them your bike helmet! Ready to relax? Enjoy a brew from Dragoon Brewing Co. or Pueblo Vida Brewing Co. in the beer garden (all proceeds support the event!), or relax in the shade of Armory Park and watch Genuine BMX perform their high-flying jumps and tricks.
Volunteers of all kinds are still needed for the event! Sign up for a three-hour shift and receive an exclusive Cyclovia t-shirt. Groups of six or more adults can even ‘adopt an intersection’ for the day and help keep the flow of traffic moving while activating the route with their own brand, music, decorations and activities.
