Tucson, AZ ---. Jazz In January, the non-profit entity and organizer of HSL Properties Tucson Jazz Festival 2023 (TJF) is pleased to announce that they have secured more than 100 world-class jazz artists to perform during the upcoming 10-day festival. Executive Director Khris Dodge thinks that this festival will reach more people than ever before, “We are thrilled to be offering our largest line-up in our history, which focuses on diversity, not only with the performers, but also with the venues and the experiences that come from each unique space”. Organizers are excited to welcome fans to a festival like no other. All the components are in place for each guest to plan a perfect, personalized jazz experience.

World renown, national, regional and local talent will perform at venues that vary from intimate cozy clubs to outdoor patios, to traditional concert theaters. Most of the performances take place within a few short blocks of Tucson’s city center, and/or on the modern streetcar route. The spaces between these venues are packed with regional specialties and southwestern flavor in the form of original art, locally owned restaurants, breweries and cocktail bars, and brand new and historic hotels. Many of these purveyors of local goods and services are also supporting the TJF with generous sponsorships to the non-profit entity Jazz In January.

Others are supporting the extraordinary event by enriching visitor experience here in the Old Pueblo. Look to HUB Ice Cream Parlor for a new signature TJF flavor. Guests are encouraged to ‘not miss a beat’ and seek out that which ‘sounds great!’ It all starts with the headliners. Joshua Redman, Bruce Hornsby & The Noisemakers, Monterey Jazz Festival All Stars including Kurt Elling (voted #1 Jazz vocalist by Downbeat Magazine) and NEA Jazz Master Dee Dee Bridgewater, ABSENCE, Emmet Cohen Trio, Pedrito Martinez & Alfredo Rodriguez Duo, Pink Martini featuring China Forbes with the Tucson Symphony Orchestra, Samara Joy, Matthew Whitaker Quintet, and Arturo O’Farrell Quintet are performing at various Tucson venues.

At the TJF the artists indeed shine brightest, but the venues also have their special glow. The Fox Tucson Theatre is an acoustically superb and beautifully renovated 1930’s southwest art deco theater. The décor and architecture are there to admire, the live jazz performance is the reason to stay! Nearby, enjoy Milan inspired Italian at Perché No, or for a quick bite and a Michelada, visit Street Taco. Anchoring the other end of Congress is the hip Rialto Theatre, hosting two 2023 festival headliners. While the musicians take a break, step out the Rialto side door and grab a glass of Tucson’s own Del Bac whiskey at the R Bar. While sipping, be sure to take in R Bar’s intricate “Story of Tucson” steel mural. In between these two theaters, is the full-service Hub Restaurant and its cousin, the eagerly anticipated and freshly reopened Playground Bar and Lounge. Witness the pulse of the city from the Playground’s rooftop bar, then swing into the night enjoying jazz under the stars. Across the street is Hotel Congress with three music venues, inside/outside dining, multiple bars, and hotel! Hotel Congress Century Room was designed specifically for jazz performances. The stage, the sound board, the baby grand, the tables, the chairs, the agave sculpture all add to the ambiance of an authentic jazz club experience. Outside, is the Hotel Congress Plaza concert venue with a welcoming patio and a full-size professionally designed stage.

Organizers of the TJF work hard all year to secure a vast array of jazz professionals for the 10-day festival. The eclectic mix includes both engaging rising stars and cherished seasoned veterans-all performing intoxicating versions of varied jazz styles at venues that enhance the experience.
