The series opens with a concert showcasing the remarkable arc of American art song, a genre that, in little more than a century, evolved from its roots in German Lieder and French mélodie into a musical language entirely its own. Across the twentieth century, composers drew on jazz, musical theater, folk traditions, and contemporary poetry to create a repertoire defined by energetic rhythms, rich harmonies, and expressive storytelling. Audiences will hear selections from some of the nation’s most celebrated composers, alongside a handful of traditional operatic arias offered for contrast. Bringing together works from across Europe, the program highlights the unique voices and national colors that shaped Romantic music, while wandering freely across centuries and styles, from the elegance of the 18th century to the colors of the present day. The music slips between worlds, classical tradition and the familiar glow of musical theatre, tracing love in its many forms: desire, devotion, distance, and loss. Join us for an evening where love is not simply told but felt, unfolding in sound that is at once intimate, dramatic, and timeless.

Doors open at 5:45 p.m. A curated selection of cocktails, fine wines, and beer will be available for purchase at the Main Hall bar; to preserve the serene atmosphere of the performance space, bar service is walk-up only, so guests are invited to visit the bar before the concert or during intermission.
