NASHVILLE, TN—June 2025—The American Association for State and Local History (AASLH) proudly announces that the Friends of the Tubac Presidio and Museum, Inc. is the recipient of an Award of Excellence for The World on Your Table. The AASLH Leadership in History Awards, now in its 80th year, is the most prestigious recognition for achievement in the preservation and interpretation of state and local history.
The food we eat and how we get it is influenced by heritage, culture, environments, politics, weather, and industry. Every time you pick up your fork – you are literally eating the world. Generously funded by a grant from the Santa Cruz Valley National Heritage Area, The World on Your Table provides a holistic look into how the natural resources of Southern Arizona and the movement of people over time have resulted in the unique Southwestern food that we know and love. With an interactive museum exhibit featuring authentic recipes to take home and translations in Spanish and O’odham, and two lush outdoor gardens where we grow a fusion of native and introduced plants, this is a museum experience like no other.
This year, AASLH confers 54 national awards honoring people, projects, exhibits, and publications. The winners represent the best in the field and provide leadership for the future of state and local history. The AASLH awards program was initiated in 1945 to establish and encourage standards of excellence in the collection, preservation, and interpretation of state and local history throughout the United States.
The AASLH Leadership in History Awards not only honor significant achievement in the field of state and local history, but also bring public recognition of the opportunities for small and large organizations, institutions, and programs to make contributions in this arena.
