Tucson, AZ -- The Tucson Arizona Boys Chorus presents two performances of its annual CLASSIC CONCERT. Tucson’s eastside concert is Saturday, March 8, 7:30pm at Our Mother of Sorrows Church, 1800 S. Kolb Road. The northwest side presentation is Sunday, March 9, 3:00pm at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, 1431 W Magee Road.
Under the direction of Dr. Julian Ackerley, the chorus will perform time-honored music representing a wide range of repertoire. Included will be selections from Renaissance, Baroque, and Classical choral masters as well as modern works.
This year’s concerts are poignant in that Julian Ackerley announced his retirement as Director after this season. For forty-five years, Dr. Ackerley has been a driving influence for thousands of young men. Though conducting future concerts this season at the May Pops Concert, this will be the last Classic Concert under his leadership. The Board of Directors is in a nationwide search to select Ackerley’s successor.
The boys’ pure treble voices will be joined with the tenors and basses of the Young Men’s Ensemble accompanied by strings. Featured will be Dixit Dominus by Baroque Italian composer Baldassare Galuppi and Missa Brevis in F written by distinguished and influential Austrian composer Wolfgang A. Mozart from the Classical period. All members of the Tucson Arizona Boys Chorus, including the younger TowneSingers, Cadet Choir and Northwest Voices will perform in a grand finale.
Tickets for the CLASSIC CONCERT are $15.00 in advance, $18.00 at the door, and $8.00 for children under 12. Advance tickets are available online at www.boyschorus.org, at the Boys Chorus office 5770 E. Pima Street, or by calling (520) 296-6277. If you know a boy age 6 or older who would like to participate in the Tucson Arizona Boys Chorus, contact the chorus office (520) 296-6277. Spring registration is now underway.
