The Borderland Film Festival, formerly known as the Santa Cruz County International Film Festival, is held every October in Ambos Nogales (Arizona and Sonora) and Santa Cruz County. The festival celebrates the scenery of the San Rafael Valley and other beautiful locales in Santa Cruz County, Arizona, and Northern Sonora, Mexico, that have, since 1913, provided picturesque vistas for more than 130 films and television shows, including "Oklahoma!" and "Traffic." It also celebrates the history, people, culture, art and areas of fascination that are unique to this portion of the world. This year's schedule:
Thursday, October 24 - Opening Ceremony at the Museo de Arte De Nogales - Nogales, Sonora. 10 year anniversary screening of Luis Carlos Davis' 389 Miles - A docufilm about the Arizona/Sonora border from East to West. After party at Fray Marcos Hotel - Nogales, Sonora.
Friday, October 25 - Nogales High School event at Oasis Cinema - Nogales, AZ. Screenings of locally filmed movies and documentaries at Oasis Cinema in Nogales, AZ and Museo de Arte in Nogales, Sonora. Gala at Holler and Saunders, 590 West International Street Nogales, AZ.
Saturday October 26 - Screenings and Q & A's at Oasis Cinema - Nogales, AZ. Guest speakers in Nogales, AZ and Nogales, Sonora. Film at the Fence, Cine en el Cerco - After dark, simultaneous screening on both sides of the border fence of a family friendly film, appropriate for all ages. Film will be followed by a music festival and street dancing on both sides of the border. Film screenings in Nogales, Sonora of Cantinflas and Disney's Los Tres Caballeros.
Sunday, October 27 - Screenings at Oasis Cinema - Nogales, AZ. Screenings in Nogales, Sonora of Carlie Chaplin - Modern Times. Closing Ceremony
