Here is a preview of the Winter Street Fair on Historic Fourth Avenue in Tucson, scheduled for December 11-13, 2020. Under normal circumstances, you might follow the song by Golden Boots and "don't drag your heels" to reach this happy event. This year, due to the coronavirus concerns, we recommend checking ahead and confirming event information before heading out.
This street fair is a twice-a-year fixture on Historic Fourth Avenue, a corridor that was hip back when most hipsters were still in diapers — that is to say, since the early 70s. The street itself is closed to vehicular traffic during the fair so pedestrians can comfortably stroll rows of tents with vast selections of merchandise — clothing, jewelry, furniture, artwork, antiques, artisanal foods, handcrafted and imported wares, and anything else you might want to dig around for — offered by local and national vendors.
Tucson's notable Food Conspiracy Co-Op and Antigone Books have rocked this scene since before disco was a thing, along with a red-brick swath of cafés, restaurants, thrift shops, bookstores, and tattoo parlors – this area has a flavor all its own!
