Rialto Theatre Video: A Century of Entertainment
Venue: Rialto Theatre
Stroll down memory lane with The Rialto Theatre as it celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2020. This video chronicles the downtown landmark's colorful backstory: From its opening distinction of having the largest stage west of the Mississippi to its early days as one of Tucson's first theaters playing silent movies and later vaudeville shows, to today's 15+ years Best of Tucson (Tucson Weekly) and #35 Best Venues Worldwide (Pollstar) rankings.
Historic images trace the venue's evolution as it became the Paramount Theater in 1948; it closed in 1963, reopened, closed again in 1984, and was brought back to life as a concert hall in the 1990s. The theater and surrounding Rialto Building commercial block were listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2003.
Restored in 2005, the Rialto remains a downtown Tucson entertainment fixture, now hosting 200 events and drawing over 100,000 patrons annually from far and wide who enjoy a wide array of live entertainment in its historic setting.
