Description:

Hear vocal stars of the opera stage, as well as Broadway and jazz—Latin singers, Latin composers, and the chance to learn what really makes up the many facets of Latin style at the 2019 Tucson Desert Song Festival (TDSF). Now in its seventh year, the festival, led by music director George Hanson, uses broad themes to tie together a wide variety of performing groups and repertoire, stretching from the Spanish Baroque through romantic opera and classical song to tango, jazz and Broadway. This year's international lineup of singers includes such major guest artists as Grammy Award-winning Ana María Martínez, Jessica Rivera and Bobby McFerrin, and Tony Award-winning Kristin Chenoweth. Ten-time Grammy Award-winner McFerrin (whose father was an operatic baritone, the first African-American man to sing at the Metropolitan Opera) and also Grammy Award-nominated Jane Bunnett Maqueque will perform with TDSF as part of collaborations with the Tucson Jazz Festival.
