October 24, 2021 - March 20, 2022
UA Museum of Art: The Art of Food
Time: From: 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM
The University of Arizona Museum of art will be open to in-person visits with a new exhibition. Featuring more than 100 works in a variety of media from the renowned collections of Jordan D. Schnitzer and His Family Foundation, The Art of Food showcases how some of the most prominent artists of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries have considered this universal subject. Organized thematically, this exhibition uses an artistic lens to examine food beyond its purpose as body fuel.
Through the works of artists such as Enrique Chagoya, Damien Hirst, Hung Liu, Analia Saban, Lorna Simpson and Andy Warhol, it becomes clear why food is a recurring subject in art, ever since the spark of human creativity was ignited thousands of years ago.
Celebrate the exhibition's opening day on Sunday, October 24th from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM for food-inspired art and festivities. Admission is free that day.
Programming will feature special guests from local organizations like the Community Food Bank, Mission Gardens and Urban Forestry Project. Enjoy live artist demonstrations, @papel_poets personalized poems, pop-up zine-making with the Poetry Center, live music and more.
