The University of Arizona
At Arizona's flagship university, you'll learn how we Bear Down.
Tucson is Wildcat Country!
Founded in 1885, The University of Arizona (aka The U of A) is the oldest university in the state, but there isn't much that's old fashioned about this top school. With educational and athletic programs that consistently compete for tops in the country it's easy to see why this sun-soaked campus is home to over 40,000 students.
The U of A is one of the pillars of Tucson's community, forming (both literally and figuratively) the heart of the city. This bustling campus anchors other vibrant areas of Tucson including the popular hangout Main Gate Square. When a football or basketball game is going on or when events like The Tucson Festival of Books take over the campus, they also take over the city creating an atmosphere that is inescapable.
As you might expect, the university brings with it fun for students and those whose college days are long past alike. Chef Maria at Boca Tacos will make you an incredible plate of food with wildly creative salsas on the side. If you're feeling more intellectual, the museums at the U of A are world class in quality including the Center for Creative Photography, founded by Ansel Adams.
With chants of "ARI-ZONA" resonating throughout the area, anyone who sets foot on this campus can immediately understand why Tucson is proud to be a big city with a college town at its core.
