Vamos a Tucson Mexican Baseball Fiesta

Kino Sports Complex ~ October 2019

The Vamos a Tucson Mexican Baseball Fiesta returns in October 2019 at Kino Stadium in Kino Sports Complex. This tournament brings together teams from the Mexican Winter League, top prospects from Major League Baseball and, for the first time, players from the University of Arizona for a series of doubleheaders also known as a lively party in the stands featuring music, chants, food, and crazy mascots.

2018 Participating Teams included: Naranjeros de Hermosillo, Yaquis de Obregon, Aguilas de Mexicali, and Cañeros de Los Mochis, the Future Stars from the Kansas City Royals, and the Arizona Wildcats.

2018 was the fourth year the Royals have sent their best young prospects to this tournament—a tribute to the level of baseball the Fiesta provides on both sides of the border. Hermosillo  and Obregon have participated all eight years. The Arizona Wildcats played against Hermosillo in the second game of the doubleheader on Thursday, October 4.

Arizona Wildcats Baseball ranked 121-67 with a pair of NCAA Tournament bids, including a College World Series appearance, and have had 20 players drafted in that span, over the past three seasons. Among those drafted is former catcher and Hermosillo native Cesar Salazar who was selected in the seventh round of the June 2018 draft by the MLB Houston Astros. Salazar is also on the Naranjeros winter roster, and there's a chance he may play in the Fiesta this year based on permission being granted by the Houston Astros.
