Southern Arizona Counties
Southern Arizona covers the northern part of the Sonoran Desert and the northwestern tip of the Chihuahuan Desert. This area extends from Picacho Peak, south to the Mexican border, west to Ajo, and east to the New Mexico state border. Pima County
Pima County was one of Arizona's four original counties created in 1864. It included most of Southern Arizona. When gold was discovered in the mid-1700s, fortune-hunting prospectors flooded the area, followed shortly by more mining and ranching and also many more people. It contains the Town of Oro Valley, Green Valley, Marana, and Ajo.
Cochise County
Located among the scenic sky-island mountains and desert riparian preserves of southeastern Arizona, Cochise County also is a land of Old West legends.
Santa Cruz County
Santa Cruz County is located the southernmost central part of Arizona, bordering Mexico and serving as the gateway to North America's most important port of entry, Nogales, Mexico.
Graham County
Graham County contains the Gila River and majestic Mount Graham. The land comprising and surrounding the cities of Pima, Thatcher, and Safford is an historical homeland of the Apache Indians.
Pinal County
Located in the central part of Arizona, 70 miles northwest of Tucson, Pinal County is the third largest county in Arizona and one of the fastest growing in the United States.
