Tucson, AZ--- With the 2026 Mariachi Conference less than a week away, excitement has begun to build. With a variety of outstanding events to select from, Southern Arizonans who are Folklorico and Mariachi fans are about to enjoy an abundance of cultural riches. The conference opens with its highly anticipated student workshops, where young musicians and dancers from across the country train with professional artists and prepare for competition. Participation has grown significantly this year, with approximately 350 folklórico students and 944 mariachi students attending. In response to this increase, organizers have added a second showcase expanding opportunities for student performers. The first competition will take place on April 29 at 6 p.m. at the MSA Annex and will feature elementary and middle school participants. The second competition will follow on April 30 at 6 p.m. at the Linda Ronstadt Music Hall, where students will compete for the chance to perform alongside professional artists at the conference’s signature concert.
A special highlight this year is the addition of an intimate educational session with renowned composer and arranger Eduardo Magallanes on April 28 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the downtown DoubleTree Hotel Ballroom. Magallanes, whose work has shaped the sound of legendary performers such as Juan Gabriel, Vicente Fernández, José José, and Plácido Domingo, will offer a rare behind-the-scenes look into the evolution of Latin music in what promises to be a one-night-only experience with limited seating.
The celebration continues with the Espectacular Concert on May 1 at 7 p.m. at the Linda Ronstadt Music Hall. This year’s performance features acclaimed vocalist Angélica Vargas appearing alongside Mariachi Sol de México. Known for her powerful voice, dynamic stage presence, and connection to the tradition of Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán, Vargas brings both energy and authenticity to one of the conference’s most anticipated events. The fun continues on with the lively Fiesta de Garibaldi on May 2 from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. at Jácome Plaza. This all-day celebration blends food, art, and music, featuring a diverse selection of local food vendors including Donut Blitz, OnlyWings, El Golden Taco, La Bufadora Fish Tacos, Churros El Rey, 3 Margaritas Kitchen, Los Chiquilines, and Devine Lemonades. Attendees can also explore artisan offerings from JD Salazar, El Milagro Artesanía, Madre Luna Mexican Art, and Clarita’s Culture Couture.
With expanded programming, a surge in student participation, and the addition of world-class talent, the 2026 Tucson International Mariachi Conference is a vital celebration of culture, community, and musical heritage in the heart of Tucson.
