Highlights include the uber popular One Night of Queen, the soulful blues of Tab Benoit, as well as the season's final Fox "Foodie Film", Sideways. Families can enjoy Storytime at the Fox and the return of the popular Mr. Nature, while film lovers can experience Silver Screen Royalty in a Golden Age Palace: The Many Faces of Marilyn, a four-film celebration of Marilyn Monroe's extraordinary versatility. The month also features Southern soul artist Rissi Palmer and a nostalgic finale with I Love the '80s, starring A Flock of Seagulls, Bow Wow Wow, and Animotion. The Film: Struggling writer and wine enthusiast Miles (Paul Giamatti) takes his engaged friend, Jack (Thomas Haden Church), on a trip to wine country for a last single-guy bonding experience. While Miles wants to relax and enjoy the wine, Jack is in search of a fling before his wedding. Soon, Jack is sleeping with Stephanie (Sandra Oh), while her friend Maya (Virginia Madsen) connects with Miles. When Miles lets slip that Jack is getting married, both women are furious, sending the trip into disarray.

Come and experience a story time like only a theatre can do it! Take a wonderful children’s book, put its pages up on the Fox’s movie screen, throw in a dash of the theatrical and a bit of popcorn, and voila– you get a storytime fit for an historic theatre! In addition to being a relaxed way to introduce children to theatre spaces, we’re working to make a splash around early childhood literacy! The Fox Tucson Theatre has given thousands of children their first live performing arts experiences, and we want to ensure they are positive ones. In collaboration with Smithsonian Folklife Festival and Tucson Meet Yourself, the Fox Tucson Theatre invites you to a FREE concert with artist Rissi Palmer, as a part of the Smithsonian’s Of The People celebration to commemorate our nation’s 250th anniversary, and in anticipation of the Tucson Meet Yourself festival in October.
Rissi Palmer, who describes her musical style as “Southern Soul,” has received widespread media attention in national publications including Ebony, Billboard, People, Newsweek, Rolling Stone, The Wall Street Journal, and more. She has performed on the CBS Morning Show, CNN, Oprah & Friends, at the White House, Lincoln Center, and the Grand Ole Opry. In 2007, she released her debut album Rissi Palmer, charting singles, “Country Girl,” “Hold On To Me,” and “No Air.” Since then, Rissi has independently released a children’s album, Best Day Ever and an EP titled The Back Porch Sessions, and a full-length album, Revival.
Aug 29, 7pm - I Love The ’80s A Flock Of Seagulls, Bow Wow Wow, and Animotion
A Flock of Seagulls were one of prime movers in the ’80s new wave era, growing out of the synth-heavy and ruthlessly stylish new romantic movement. Hairdresser Mike Score (lead vocals, keyboards) formed A Flock of Seagulls with his brother Ali (drums) and fellow hairdresser Frank Maudsley (bass) in 1980, adding guitarist Paul Reynolds several months later. The band released their eponymous debut album in 1982 and released “I Ran (So Far Away)” as the first single, which climbed into the American Top Ten. Other hits include “Wishing (If I Had a Photograph of You),” “Space Age Love Song,” and “The More You Live, The More You Love.” In 2024, Mike Score returned with the sixth A Flock of Seagulls album Some Dreams, the first studio album in over 19 years. The album featured all new compositions and showcased that songwriting talent that Mike still, at 71, can dish out with effortless aplomb.
Annabella Lwin, at the tender age of fourteen, was one of the most photographed, talked about, and popular vocalists in the early 80s with her band, Bow Wow Wow, who enjoyed success with hits such as: “C30, C60, C90 Go!,” “Go Wild in the Country,” “Do You Wanna Hold Me,” and “I Want Candy.” Her unique vocals, which swung between sweet fourteen and a Balinese banshee, defined the sound of a new and energetic new pop culture
Formed at the peak of the new wave movement, Animotion recorded three albums in the 80s, then disappeared for a decade. In the 21st century, Bill Wadhams and Astrid Plane reunited with keyboard player Greg Smith and drummer Jim Blair, and they’ve been rocking ever since. Chris Wadhams, Wyatt Blair, and Paul Trubachik join the band at selected shows. In 2017, they released a new album, “Raise Your Expectations.
