Tucson, AZ -- Tucson General is the brainchild of Kelly Durand of Desert Denim and Gabrielle Smoyer of Cowtail Vintage, creator of Tucson’s monthly vintage market, Desert Haze. The 1,300 sq ft brick-and-mortar shop in the Iron Horse district carries curated vintage and fine goods.

The brick building has 13-foot ceilings, large antique windows and maple parquet floors, giving the inside a lofty, contemporary feel and an elevated vintage shopping experience similar to a department store.

The store features three local vintage vendors — Grace and Cain, Y.o.l.o. Tengo Vintage and Ffrruuiittccuupp — and two local jewelry makers, Ford and Fossil and Alex Keller Jewelry, alongside a mix of curated vintage and fine goods sourced by Smoyer and Durand.

Desert Denim is hidden in the back of the building, offering more than 300 pairs of vintage Levi’s, one-on-one fitting appointments, onsite denim repairs and custom tailoring in the studio. “We wanted to take vintage and handmade items and make retail an experience again — give people a reason to come into the store rather than just shop online.

Everything in Tucson General is very intentional, and we want to make shopping here memorable.” — Kelly Durand, owner of Desert Denim Company
“Every vendor in Tucson General is someone whose items Kelly and I admire. It’s less a store and more a collection of Tucson’s best curators and makers. Kelly and I just wanted to build our dream store — all the things we wanted to shop, under one roof.” — Gabrielle Smoyer, Cowtail Vintage and creator of Desert Haze Market

Tucson General is now open Wednesday through Sunday, 11 am to 5 pm, at 629 E. 9th St.
