JUNE AT THE FOX

June 3, 8pm - Joe Jackson + Band - Hope and Fury Tour

Joe Jackson was born on August 11, 1954, in Burton-on-Trent, England, but grew up in the South Coast naval port city of Portsmouth.  At age 16 Joe played his first paying gig, as pianist in a pub next door to a glue factory just outside of Portsmouth.  This was followed by other pub gigs (in which he was often trying to entertain crowds of drunken, bottle-throwing sailors) and accompanying a bouzouki player in a Greek restaurant.

At age 18 Joe won a scholarship to study Composition, Piano, and Percussion at London’s Royal Academy of Music

June 4. 10:30am - Storytime at the Fox!

Take a wonderful children’s book, put its pages up on the Fox’s movie screen, throw in a dash of the theatrical and a bit of popcorn, and voila– you get a storytime fit for a historic theatre! In addition to being a relaxed way to introduce children to theatre spaces, we’re working to make a splash around early childhood literacy!  Educators from Make Way for Books will be at the event to lead activities and provide resources to support your children’s learning journeys. This event is free to attend, but registration is requested Here

June 8-12  - Teen Outdoor Filmmaking CampConnecting with Nature Through Film and Advocacy

This immersive, hands-on camp is for teens who want to forge a deeper connection with nature through a combination of direct experience and the arts.

During the week of the camp—a collaboration between the Tucson Village Farm and the Fox Tucson Theatre—participants will head into Southern Arizona’s most inspiring landscapes, including field trips to the Santa Ritas and Mt. Lemmon.  There they will put into practice the arts techniques and understandings that they will be learning from filmmakers, writers, and environmental advocates, developing skills ranging from creative communication and cinematography to audio recording and editing.

The week culminates in an unforgettable experience: campers’ films showcased on the big screen at the iconic Fox Theatre, where Tucsonans have come to see major movies for almost 100 years!  Participants will leave with two bite-sized films that pack a punch, other opportunities to share their films in the community, and the ability to continue making powerful movies with just their phones!

Perfect for teens who love film, nature, or both, this camp empowers participants to turn their ideas into impactful stories.  No filmmaking experience is required—just curiosity, creativity, and a desire to connect with nature and make a difference through art.

During this camp, students will:

·       Deepen their connection with nature through the arts

·       Learn smartphone filmmaking fundamentals, including framing, sound, and editing

·       Build safe, responsible, and respectful filming habits

·       Develop creative storytelling skills through scripting and visual dialogue

·       Share their films with the community at the Fox Theatre’s Monsoon Literacy Celebration (June 27–28)

June 11, 7:30pm - Asleep at the Wheel

In February of 1974 Asleep at the Wheel made the move from the Bay Area to Austin, Texas. After playing the Armadillo World Headquarters with Commander Cody and his Lost Planet Airmen in 1973 – and receiving encouragement from Willie Nelson and Doug Sahm to relocate – the band settled in and made Austin their home, where they remain 50 years later.

June 19, 7:30pm - Ziggy Marley

Ziggy Marley is a nine-time Grammy winner, Emmy winner, musician, producer, activist and humanitarian who has cultivated a legendary career for close to 40 years. The eldest son of Bob and Rita Marley, Ziggy has hewed his own path as a musical pioneer, infusing the reggae genre with funk, blues, rock and other elements through mindful songcraft. Equal parts master storyteller and motivational guide, he deftly explores issues from environmental awareness to self-empowerment, social injustice to political inequity, while returning again and again to the transformative power of love. And over the past 15 years with his own companies, Tuff Gong Worldwide and Ishti Music, Marley has complete control of his masters and publishing; alongside his charity URGE – benefiting the well-being of children in Jamaica, Africa and North America. June 20, 7:30pm - Three Dog Night

Iconic American band, THREE DOG NIGHT, now celebrating its 6th decade, boasts some of the most astonishing chart statistics in popular music with 21 consecutive Billboard Top 40 hits, including 3 #1 singles and 12 straight RIAA Certified Gold LPs.

Created in 1968 by Irish-born Danny Hutton, the group was conceived to feature three strong vocalists who shared leads and also blended in exquisite three-part harmony, complemented by four ace instrumentalists, creating a self-contained unit. This ultimately became Three Dog Night’s signature sound in the studio and live on the road.

June 25, 7:30pm - Matteo Bocelli - Falling in Love World Tour

When your father is the legendary tenor Andrea Bocelli – the voice that has wowed the world for over three decades – stepping into the spotlight isn’t just a career move for his son Matteo – it’s a birthright, a burden, and a generational breakthrough which has taken him from heir to innovator.

With his eagerly-anticipated second album, Falling in Love, Matteo steps confidently into the spotlight as the next generation artist, with the heart of a poet and the reach of a global pop star.

The pressure to live up to his father’s extraordinary reputation has shaped his journey, fueling his determination to prove his own extraordinary artistry. ‘Being a Bocelli is both a privilege and a responsibility,’ he says. ‘I’ve never wanted to run from my father’s incredible legacy, but I do want people to hear my voice, my emotions and my version of love.

June 27 - Monsoon Literacy Celebration

Midsummer will again see the return of the Fox’s beloved, annual Monsoon Literacy Celebration. This free-to-attend community event brings literacy to life as we experience how reading and writing connects us to the local desert and the people that call it home.  Bringing together hundreds of participants with community organizations and authors, the event is recommended for children aged 4-9, but everyone is welcome!  There will be two events this year, at both 10 AM and 2PM on Saturday, June 27th, in addition to a youth poetry reading on the evening of June 28th, with the Many Nations Team of the Pima County Public Library.

June 28 - Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory

A sweet boy from a poor family dreams of finding one of the five golden tickets hidden inside chocolate bar wrappers which will admit him to the eccentric and reclusive Willy Wonka's magical factory. One after another, tickets are discovered by ghastly children,  but will the lad find the last remaining one and have all his dreams come true?
