Gather Your Attendees for an Off-Site Experience
IF YOU’RE LIKE MOST meeting attendees today, you’ll want to have some leisure mixed with your business. You probably look for an exciting travel adventure in addition to a valuable educational experience.
Tucson is the perfect destination to provide your attendees with the “bleisure” foray they seek, and one of the best ways to do this is to complement your meeting with a special program or team-building exercise in a venue that allows for immersion into Tucson’s cuisine, culture, and history:
Pima Air and Space Museum
Featuring more than 300 historical aircraft from a Wright Flyer to a 787 Dreamliner, the Pima Air & Space Museum is one of the largest private aviation and space museums in the world. Its main hangar accommodates 20 to 400 people under the wings of a beautifully restored F-4 Thunderbird, an F-14 Tomcat, and the T-33 that John Wayne flew in the movie Jet Pilot. Attendees can learn a lot about aviation history with walking tours, tram tours, and docent presentations about particular planes or military conflicts. The Flight Grill and the John R. Stitt Education Center are also available for events. Top Gun party, anyone?
This 98-acre zoo, botanical garden, art gallery, natural history museum, and aquarium, is a one-of-a-kind visitor attraction and research facility. The museum sponsors conservation programs that help to protect the Sonoran Desert region. With four indoor spaces and several outdoor spaces available for rent—and two restaurants—the museum can accommodate groups from five to 300. Patios and picture windows provide panoramic views of the saguaro-dotted Tucson Mountains and surrounding natural landscape. Entice your attendees with local animal interpretations and presentations on the surprising ways desert plants are adapted to their environment. Or, choose from guided and behind-the-scenes tours, plein air art experiences, team-building scavenger hunts, and other private, on-grounds activities.
Tohono Chul Gardens, Galleries & Bistro is a botanical garden and nature preserve located in an urban setting. The 49-acre “desert corner” has nature trails, demonstrations, native plant gardens, changing indoor and outdoor arts and cultural exhibitions featuring local artists, and private dining rooms and patios. Your group can rent the Desert Discovery Education Center Meeting Room, which has audio/ visual presentation capabilities. Take the event outside with customized tours and classes—from general tours of the Sonoran Desert to birding or ethnobotany.
Fox Tucson Theatre, Downtown
Originally opened in 1930 as a vaudeville movie house, the Fox Tucson Theatre is designed in a Southwestern Art Deco style and boasts exceptional acoustics. Your attendees will feel like movie stars as they walk in on a red carpet to a Hollywood-themed gala event. The main theater is a classic movie palace and performing arts facility that seats 1,164. Three lobby spaces are also available for rent, either separately for smaller groups or in conjunction with the main theater. The second-floor lobby features a bar and small catering kitchen. Host an event, board retreat, presentation, or guest speaker, or the theater can arrange a short film on the restoration of the theater.
