LGBTQ Tucson

Gay-Friendly and Proud of it

Tucson’s progressive culture and relaxed, live-and-let-live attitude have made the city one of the country’s most gay-friendly places to live or visit. If you're part of the LGBTQ community and thinking about visiting or relocating to Tucson, here are just a few factors to consider:

In 2003, Tucson became the first municipality in Arizona to enact a domestic partner registry law

In 2013, Tucson City Council voted unanimously to recognize same-sex civil unions and domestic partnerships

The city has had a number of openly LGBTQ public officials, both elected and appointed

Major employers, including the City of Tucson, the University of Arizona and corporations like Raytheon and Intuit, sponsor LGBTQ employee organizations

Tucson hosts the annual Pride in the Desert celebration in October as well as a number of other LGBTQ-focused events through the year

Tucson has several LGBTQ bars and clubs, many LGBTQ-owned businesses, an LGBTQ Chamber of Commerce, LGBTQ social clubs and political organizations, LGBTQ youth groups, and LGBTQ-welcoming places of worship

And while these are all great reasons to love Tucson, the best reason of all is that you don't have to look for LGBTQ businesses and organizations to find a gay-friendly community.

So go ahead and hold hands at the park. Book a couple's massage at the spa. Kiss your partner at dinner. This is Tucson, where open and authentic is our way of life.
